Yoni eggs are one of the most powerful tools I have found to connect to the sacred space of the vagina, a space we as women have sadly never been encouraged to love, respect, and feel into.
A yoni egg, also known as a jade egg or love egg, is a small, smooth, egg-shaped gemstone that is inserted into the vagina for physical, emotional and spiritual exercise.
Thought to originate from ancient Taoist practices, yoni eggs were used to improve a woman’s health and sexual vitality. Today, yoni eggs are cherished for their ability to connect you with your feminine energy, support pelvic floor muscles, promote self-awareness and are a symbol of empowerment and self-care.
What to expect from using a yoni egg consistently:
- A more loving relationship with yourself and your sexuality
- Stronger more pleasurable orgasms
- A naturally lubricated yoni
- Awakened libido and passion
- Increased muscle control
- Strength and energy in the pelvic floor
Yoni eggs are also an excellent tool for addressing vaginal “numbness” that so many women experience due to disconnection, trauma, and sexual shame. There are so many potential benefits you may experience, not all are listed here. Everyone is different and will have their own unique experiences with this practice.
Choosing the Right Yoni Egg:
Yoni eggs come in a variety of crystals or gemstones.
At Venus in Silk I have sourced, through extensive travel to Asia and research, three of the most relevant yoni egg stones: Nephrite Jade, Rose Quartz, and Amethyst.
*A quick note on Jade: There are a lot of “jade” products out there including yoni eggs, that are not actually jade, but a man-made alternative. We sell only GIA certified nephrite jade yoni eggs that are a dark green shade.
You are inserting these stones into your most sensitive space so quality is very important here!
Which stone you choose will be an intuitive endeavor. You will likely feel pulled towards the look, feel, and energy of the stone that is right for you. As a general guide here are some qualities of each of my three favorite stones:
Nephrite Jade: The classic yoni egg. Stone of health and vitality. Great for overall sexual wellness as well as intentions of prosperity and abundance in life. Can help transmute negative to positive energy.
Rose Quartz: All about the heart. Promotes self-love. Connects the heart with yoni. Can be used to attract a romantic partner. Heals the heart Chakra.
Amethyst: Third Eye Chakra. Stone for meditation and higher consciousness. Helps heal addictions. Calming, cleansing, emotional centering.
Not really into metaphysics? No worries! Skeptics can also enjoy and benefit from yoni eggs– they could be interpreted as high-quality weighted kegel balls. Why put something silicone up there when you could use a natural alternative?
Yoni eggs generally come in 3 sizes: small, medium, and large. At Venus in Silk we currently sell only the medium size, as this is suitable for most people and beginners. Small eggs are for more advanced practitioners, while some women who have had multiple natural births may find a large egg easiest to start with.
So you’ve purchased your first yoni egg, now what?
First of all, honor yourself for taking the time to explore your most sacred parts. This process of strengthening and giving much needed attention to your yoni will spill over into all areas of your life.
Start slow. There is no finish line you are racing towards here.
- Make sure to thoroughly cleanse your yoni egg and hands with warm water and mild soap before beginning. If you egg is drilled (most are for beginners) thread a body safe string such as unwaxed dental floss through and tie it. You should change the string each use.
- Set your space. Clear any clutter from on and around your bed, and do whatever feels right to create a comfortable environment for yourself such as playing music, lighting a candle, or simply relaxing in silence.
- Lie down comfortably and do a body scan to release any areas of tension. Focus on your breath as you let go of any judgments that may arise. Start by holding your yoni egg on your body before slowly moving it toward your yoni.
- With the larger end of the egg touching your vagina, make gentle circular movements until you slowly allow the egg to go inside. If it helps you feel more comfortable you can use a water based lube or coconut oil to help ease insertion.
Once inserted it’s up to you how you want to continue the practice. At first don’t keep your yoni egg in for more than 15-20 minutes. Here are some ideas for beginner practices you can do:
- Simply lie on your back and focus on your breath. You may try to squeeze your vagina for several seconds as you inhale and then relax your vagina and whole as you exhale.
- While lying on your back inhale and lift your hips up, exhale and release your body onto the bed. Repeat, connecting your breath to your movements.
- Sitting comfortably, bring your attention and your breath to your yoni. When you are ready, quickly squeeze and release the egg 25-50 times.
- Wear your egg around the house while you do your daily activities or yoga. Remember to start with a short amount of time, no longer than 20 minutes before increasing the time as you feel more comfortable.
Throughout this process from beginning to end keep your intention in mind. Practice coming back to your breath if your mind wanders, and have a positive mantra available to repeat to yourself. Treat this time with great respect.
Removal: Remember your yoni egg cannot get lost inside of you.
Relax your pelvic floor muscles and take a few deep breaths. Gently pull the string attached to the yoni egg. Or if there is no string gently push the egg out. Again, don’t worry, your egg cannot get lost inside or stuck. Remember to breathe and take your time and it will come out.
As with any other exercise, in order to see results you need to show up consistently for yourself. A regular yoni egg practice will reap emotional and physical benefits over time. We recommend it at least 3 times/week.
Yoni eggs offer a unique and personal journey of self-discovery, embracing feminine energy, and promoting overall well-being. By incorporating these ancient tools into your wellness routine, you can tap into your sensuality, strengthen your pelvic floor, and deepen your connection with your body.
Remember to listen to your body, respect your limits, and consult a healthcare professional if you have any concerns. With patience, self-care, and an open mind, the use of yoni eggs can become a transformative and empowering experience.
How to care for your yoni egg:
Again, this is a sacred tool that should be treated with care and respect. Cleanse your yoni egg with mild soap or lavender oil and warm water directly after use. Do not leave your yoni egg in the bathroom. Store it in the silk bag provided and place it on an altar, or in another safe space where its energy will be protected.
When not to use a yoni egg:
This is very important! While generally safe if used correctly, there are times when a yoni egg practice should not be implemented without medical consult. We recommend consulting your healthcare provider before you begin practice with a yoni egg if you are at all concerned and definitely if:
- you are pregnant,
- experiencing pain,
- have an infection or history of infections, or
- have an IUD inserted.
Also, using a yoni egg while menstruating is not recommended. This is a time for your body to rest.
